The Free Enterprise Alliance and Associated Builders and Contractors are leading the campaign to educate Americans about the Employee Free Choice Act — a misnamed bill that would effectively strip the right to a secret ballot for employees deciding whether to join a union.
ABC is a national association representing 25,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in 79 chapters across the United States. ABC’s membership represents all specialties within the U.S. construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms that perform work in the industrial and commercial sectors of the industry.
ABC has aggressively educated its members about EFCA and is a proud member of the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace, a group of more than 500 organizations aligned against the troubling legislation.
Geoffrey Burr is Vice President of Government Affairs at Associated Builders & Contractors in their National office in Washington, DC. As Vice President, Geoff oversees the Legislative, Political, Legal and Regulatory Departments at ABC, which includes oversight over all of ABC’s federal lobbying activities and political fundraising and advocacy.
Prior to recently accepting his current position and signing on for his second tour with ABC, Geoff spent the last three years as a political appointee, serving in the Bush Administration at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). At DOL, Geoff served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs, where he managed a large staff tasked with promoting the Department’s legislative goals and priorities on Capitol Hill as well as among state and local officials.
Prior to entering government service, Geoff served in a variety of positions at ABC over an almost six year period. He is a graduate of the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Brewster Bevis currently serves as the Senior Director of Legislative affairs for the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) where he has oversight on all legislative issues. Prior to joining ABC Brewster was an appointee in the administration of former President George W. Bush where he served as a Legislative Officer in the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor. Brewster also worked for Bush-Cheney ’04 as a Regional Political Director in Florida. Prior to this he served on Capitol Hill in the office of former Congresswoman Katherine Harris. Brewster also in worked in state government in Florida. Brewster graduated from Florida State University.
Kristen Swearingen is a Director of Legislative Affairs for the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) where she covers a broad range of issues. Prior to joining ABC in 2006, Kristen served on Capitol Hill in the office of Senator Jim Bunning. Kristen graduated from the College of Charleston in South Carolina.
Chris Singerling is the director of political affairs at Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). In this capacity he supervises, plans and directs their national political operation which includes; ABC PAC, the Free Enterprise Alliance (issue advocacy) and their grassroots political activities. Prior to joining ABC, Singerling served in a variety of positions on Capitol Hill most recently as political director for Congressman John Boehner (R-OH). Prior to that, he was director of coalitions and special projects for the House Republican Conference under former Congressman J.C. Watts (R-OK), and was with former Congressman John Kasich (R-OH) as deputy political director and personal aide during his 2000 presidential bid. His career began in the finance division of the National Republican Congressional Committee under former Congressman Bill Paxon (R-NY).
Ben Brubeck is the Director of Labor and State Affairs for Associated Builders and Contactors National in Arlington, Virginia. Ben has been with ABC National since October 2003 and previously served as ABC’s Business and Labor Relations Manager, State Affairs Coordinator and Federal Legislative Assistant. A recognized leader in both state and federal labor issues, Brubeck has extensive experience with union-only PLAs, Davis-Bacon and state prevailing wage laws among other key labor matters throughout the United States. Brubeck is a graduate of Gettysburg College (Gettysburg, PA) and is a native of Connecticut.
