Card Check: Any “Soon” Is Too Soon

The Las Vegas Sun has an important report on the progress of the very unprogressive Employee Free Choice Act:

John Wilhelm, president of Unite Here, the international hotel and casino workers union, told attendees at the Global Gaming Expo on Wednesday that the Employee Free Choice Act has dim legislative prospects — and that unions shouldn’t rely on it as a fix-all solution to labor’s decades-long membership slide.

Over at the Washington Examiner, Mark Hemingway looks at Big Labor’s post-2009 election strategy and asks “Will a card check vote happen soon?” The article essentially argues that organized labor will seek a vote on EFCA to get Members of Congress on the record (though one can’t imagine a politician would like that idea).

Frankly, whether a vote happens sooner or later isn’t as important as how a Member votes. This is a critical issue, as yet another editorial reminds us.
