Card Check: Alternatives, Politics, and Policy
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 by adminWhile some discuss “compromise” on an uncompromisingly bad bill, Rep. John Kline and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers are putting for a Republican alternative to the Employee Free Choice Act:
Our alternative — the Secret Ballot Protection Act, H.R. 1176 — permanently eliminates the uncertainty surrounding the union election process. It assures workers that no one — not a union organizer, not management – will know how they voted. Simply put, it guarantees workers will be able to vote with the privacy and protection of a secret ballot, empowering them to cast their ballot freely.
Elsewhere, goings on:
- A Roll Call op-ed pointing to organized labor’s push for unpopular policies such as EFCA and socialized medicine asks, “Will Alliance With Labor Burn Democrats in 2010?”
- Right on cue, a labor federation “demands” Congress pass EFCA
- Socialist websites are already warning EFCA will be “Derailed by the Democrats”
- Pennsylvania paper: “Battle to start again over Employee Free Choice Act”
- In Syracuse, a reader writes EFCA “would remove workers’ right to a secret ballot”
- Labor lawyer on EFCA: “It’s a major, radical change from what has been on the books since the 1930s.”
- Amid dismal job market, Americans grow warier of unions
