Gorski Questions AFL-CIO Strategy on EFCA
Thursday, March 12th, 2009 by Chris SingerlingAssociated Builders and Contractors (ABC) 2009 National Chairman Jerry Gorski, president of Gorski Engineering, Collegeville, Pa., today issued the following statement in reaction to news that the AFL-CIO will support Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter’s 2010 reelection campaign if he votes for the Employee Free Choice Act (S. 560):
“It is difficult to believe that union bosses in Washington think they are able to buy a vote in support of the misnamed Employee Free Choice Act. This is a desperate attempt on their part to try and shove this legislation onto the American public,” said Gorski.
“Unfortunately, what the AFL-CIO fails to realize is that neither Senator Specter’s nor any other member of Congress’ vote is for sale,” added Gorski.
“It is surprising in this era of change that anyone would be brazen enough to suggest a quid pro quo such as this,” said Gorski.
“A new report shows that if the Employee Free Choice Act were signed into law, 600,000 Americans would be out of work in the first year alone,” added Gorski. “The President and this Congress could serve the country much better by working to create more jobs and fixing the economy.”

Rubicon says:Unfortunately, based on his clear understanding of just how angry “true” Republicans are over his bought & paid for vote for the spending (er, I mean stimulus), legislation, Specter knows his days are numbered. He has betrayed his constituents so often, they no longer expect him to do anything Republican. The man was originally a Democrat & in fact, never became a Republican. Arlen just did what the union plans to do to get him re-elected. He falsely registered as a Republican.
Too bad union members do not realize union support for illegal alien amnesty means a glut of cheap workers. Workers who will drive down wages for all, including or especially citizens, who used to be able to command decent wages when they were not in competition for jobs w/ third world slave labor workers. Union bosses will sell out members once that worker glut hits. After all, once the union is in, what do you think the possibility of getting the union out will be w/o the secret ballot? I wonder if zilch, nada, zero, zippo, squat, mean anything to them?
The registering of members as members of a political party they are really not members of, represents the type of tactics that will be employed to deal w/ dissenting union members. Perhaps they should take note of this as they decide what & who they want to support.
There are many ways to deal w/ unfair circumstances in representation issues that might favor an employer. But dumping the secret ballot is definitely not one of them.

Spinpolitico says:Well, Specter can be bought. Obvious also is a Presidency can be bought. WHat I would like to see is for those supporting the EFCA to explain their economic rationalizations and answer the following:
1. When cost of operations will go thru the roof, and these costs are passed on to the consumer, who will be able to afford to live?
2. While on one hand this woudl drive the costs of ALL goods and services thru the roof, take-home income will be reduced dramatically via the bevy of taxes about to come down the pike, so regardless how much money you give the lug-nut twister, his take-home pay will stillbe reduced, while his dollar goes less far. How will this work?
3. How does it stimulate the economy when you drive the costs of operations so high that no one will be able to afford to buy your product or service?
We Americans hold our collective breath awaiting your obfuscating drivel.
